Fanfare Revisited
It was not a man who came by us,
Fought and thought and sat by us,
But we ourselves who did this
Bringing down
Bringing down,
I was pure and you were pure.
Here was the solution in your palm,
Out in the open, where I was too,
And we both sang under the trees,
Fought the mist of the night
With our skins in that car,
Fifteen years ago, our hands
Having to ask for no directions,
And gravity was just a rumor,
It was something else that kept
Our bodies together, a valence
That set off ignition inside us,
Holy Spirit,
Do not bring this memory to ashes.
