Imagings
(To Janet Wittenberg’s Eruption)

This is the test
I put myself through:
Imagining my breast
And what radiation would do.

It comes up in my dreams;
The broken skin, the crust,
The tissue bursting the seams,
The relentless thrust

Of cancer’s wreckful careening
My body unripe for its gleaning.
